Originally from Sancerre and having proved himself elsewhere, Rosenberg spent a decade working in a more conventional way in Champagne before choosing to trust his instincts and make fine wines free of inputs. He started by banishing sulphur, the use of which he could no longer stand and which, in his view, distorts the character of wine. This has proved a successful choice, since over time, his wines have gained in finesse and elegance. Benoit Rosenberg owes part of his success to Frédéric Gounan, another local winemaker.
