Information
Domaine Roche de Bellene was created in 2005 by Nicolas Potel after the purchase of several plots of vines ranging from Santenay to Vosne Romanée. The vines are aged from 50 to 110 years old and are grown organically. The domaine then launched a trading business under the name of Roche de Bellene which is discussed here.
A legendary appellation officially recognised in 1936, Gevrey-Chambertin has been a famous vineyard for over 1000 years, when the Church was in charge of the vines in the Middle Ages. The Pinot Noir vines, planted on the hillside at an altitude of 310 metres, benefit from a south-easterly exposure, ideal for grapes to ripen. Averaging h years, the vines thrive on soils consisting of clay and limestone. Once in the winery, the hand-picked grapes ferment naturally using native yeasts. The cuvée is matured in casks, all new, before bottling without fining or filtration.
The bright red colour is complemented by an expressive bouquet, combining generous notes of black fruit with touches of cinnamon and subtle hints of undergrowth. The rich and intense palate reveals luscious fruit aromas leading to a long, flavoursome finish. This Premier Cru can easily be cellared for ten years, during which time the aromas will evolve towards notes of musk and leather.
