Information
Domaine Henri Clerc et Fils was founded in the 16th century in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet. In 2002, his descendant Bernard Clerc, retired and sold a large part of his vines to Vincent Girardin. The latter vinifies and matures his wines at Meursault, after manual harvesting of the prestigious vines of the Côte de Beaune, such as Bienvenue, Bâtard-Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. The time taken for aging in oak barrels (of which 30% are renewed each year), varies between 11 and 13 months
Located close to the village of Flagey-Echézeaux, between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits, the Echezeaux vineyard enjoys an ideal east-facing exposure. As with Clos de Vougeot, the vines in this appellation were first cultivated by the monks of Citeaux Abbey as early as the 12th century, and have continued to gain renown ever since. The vines are planted at around 230 metres on diverse soils consisting of clay and limestone.
The bright ruby-red colour reveals a heady, joyous bouquet, characterised by fresh scents of red fruit, such as strawberry and cherry, along with floral touches of rose. The palate exudes freshness, perfectly balanced with luscious red fruit aromas, leading to a savoury, crisp finish. This cuvée can easily be cellared for several years.
