Information
Meursault, the charming Burgundy village that owes its notoriety to the cult French film La Grande Vadrouille, is home to Domaine Pierre Girardin, the producer of this red Volnay. This wine is crafted from Pinot Noir, a noble grape variety typical of the region, which?–?in this case around forty years old?–?has been encouraged to draw the nutrients necessary for its development from soils consisting of clay and limestone through environmentally friendly growing methods. Facing east towards the rising sun, the grapes ripen beautifully. After being hand-picked, the grapes are carefully sorted before vinification, which leaves nothing to chance to produce an authentic wine with luscious fruit and a lingering finish. The winemaking process involves very little intervention, leaving the fermentation process to the native yeasts. Tasting reveals a wine of great elegance, structured by fine tannins.
