Information
In 1964, Lucien and Paul Seroin came from Algeria and settled in Corsica where they cleared the shrubland and planted their first vines on the slopes that dominate the Valinco Gulf and the Bay of Tizzano. The grapes are vinified at the local cooperative.
Gilles Seroin took over the 11-hectare estate in 1995 and decided to vinify his own wines. He named the property after the legend of the local hermit who was cured by plants and built the cellars that are used today. He expanded the estate which now stands at 40 hectares today, mostly planting varieties native to the island. Sciacarellu, Rimenese, Genovese, Biancu Ghjentile, Minustrellu and Aleaticu all show off their individual flavours and their Corsican soul in the wide range of wines. In 2021, the estate gained organic certification and Gilles was joined by his children Jeanne and Guillaume who are going to continue the family vineyard.
This cuvée is a pure product of the Corsican terroir, benefiting from the sunny climate of the Sant’Armettu vineyards, nestled in the hills of southern Corsica. The parcels of Sciaccarellu are planted on broad slopes overlooking the Gulf of Propriano. The clay-granitic soils and Burgundian-inspired vinification showcase a grape variety indigenous to the island, refining its tannic structure without affecting its natural sweetness.
Harvested with respect for the environment, the berries produce vintages matured in tuns, containers that ensure the purest expression of the aromas. Gourmet on the nose, we find notes of strawberries and other red fruits, accented by a hint of white pepper. On the palate, these flavours are enhanced by subtle notes of spice and garrigue. The long, pleasant finish adds an ultimate suppleness to the tasting experience. This gourmet wine can be enjoyed at a standard temperature of around 15 °C, but can also be served cooler … to refresh palates tested by the Corsican heat!
