    About the producer

Domaine Prunier-Damy, based in Auxey-Duresses, came to be when plots from two vineyards were brought together. The first, Domaine Damy (Gagnard), dates back to 1712, while the second, owned by the Prunier family, dates back to 1840. Since 2010, Justine Damy is in charge of the business, having taken over from her parents Philippe and Annie. Having inherited the family expertise and proud of her hometown of Auxey-Duresses, a discreet appellation in the Côte de Beaune, she cultivates 16 hectares of vines and produces high-quality wines that reflect their terroir.
A new vathouse was built in 2007. Justine applies environmentally friendly viticulture methods and uses selected organic products (the estate is not yet certified). Vegetation cover, controlled yields, increasingly manual harvesting, vinification in vats followed by ageing in wooden casks (with a majority of old casks).
The resulting wines are authentic, luscious and supple. We encourage you to try them, as they still present a good opportunity to acquire terroir wines at reasonable prices.

    About the wine

This ‘Sous le Château’ Saint-Romain is one of those wines that could be called ‘terroir wines’. Lively, mineral, floral and delicate, it expresses all the characteristics of this parcel splendidly. As its name suggests, it lies beneath a château, now in ruins. The Chardonnay vines planted here enjoy one of the best exposures in the Saint-Romain appellation, so much so that the producers have applied for it to be classified as a Premier Cru.
After being carefully and respectfully cultivated, the grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks until midway through the alcoholic fermentation stage. The wine is then placed in casks to further develop its delicacy and complexity. The temperatures are, of course, strictly controlled to maintain the balance between fruit and substance. The wine is then left to age in old casks for eight months. Today, 15% of new oak is the norm, and has been since the 2019 vintage.
This wine can easily be savoured in its youth, and its substance makes it a tasty match for white meats or other creamy dishes.
