Information
Lucien Le Moine is a haute-couture trader/farmer maison created by Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin, a Lebanese couple. After the husband spent some time in a monastery and a first attempt at the art of making wine, then embarked on enology studies, he created his structure in 1999 to offer wine from the finest terroirs. The name of the maison comes from the nickname that his friends gave him as a result of his education in the Cistercian cloister: "Le Moine", the Monk. Lucien was the name given to him by the monks. Today, he produces 38 different crus, ranging from village wines to grand crus. The vinification and élevage are very precise and well done, as delicately and naturally as possible. A must-see.
Known for producing the most feminine wines in the Côtes de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny is home to vineyards nestled at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres. The many cracks in the limestone soils allow these vines to draw the necessary nutrients deep from the ground. In the cellar, the pressed grapes are put into barrels by gravity. A special feature of the cuvée is that it is kept in barrels for around 10 months, with battonage (stirring the lees) taking place two to four times per month, before being bottled without fining or filtration.
The intense and deep ruby-red colour with purple glints, unveils an explosive nose marked by ripe dark fruits, enhanced by notes of violet. On the palate, a beautiful balance is created between finesse and complexity, through which the fine tannins and leather aromas intertwine, leaving a rich and flavourful finish. It has a good, long storage potential.
