Information
Romain Guiberteau has been in charge of the 14.5 hectare family domain in the communes of Montreuil-Bellay, Brézé and Bizay since 1996. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2003 and is planted with Chenin and Cabernet Franc. Some of the vines are around 60 years old. The soil is tilled and left with grass cover. The only additives used are sulphur, copper and plant decoctions. A true leading light in the region, Romain Guiberteau, originally from Berry, makes wines reputed to be among the best in the Loire.
These Chenin Blanc vines thrive in their limestone soils thanks to a healthy, sustainable viticulture system that respects organic farming practices. Here, neither weedkillers nor chemical fertilisers come into play. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand at optimum ripeness, in order to protect the fruit. In the winery, the same ethos applies. Vinification involves as few additives as possible to allow the fruit to express all its aromas naturally. The winemaker lovingly works his white wines in tuns and barrels to allow them to reveal the aromas of the grape variety and achieve a unique balance.
The slightly golden colour reveals a bouquet of subtle citrus aromas, with notes of white fruit and hazelnuts. In the mouth, a fine balance is struck between freshness and acidity, leading to a saline, flavoursome finish. This wine will be best enjoyed in its youth.
