Information
Situated on the heights of the commune of Illats, at the top of the Bel Air plateau, Château Saint-Michel cultivates two and a half hectares of vines. The clay-limestone terroir mainly consists of gravel, perfectly suited to the production of Sauternes. This appellation, which comes from the Bordeaux winegrowing region on the banks of the Gironde, is renowned worldwide for its sweet wines. The estate cultivates a majority of Semillon grapes, representing 80% of the vineyard, as well as 15% Sauvignon and 5% Muscadelle. Each parcel benefits from meticulous, well-balanced viticulture, to preserve its individual characteristics. In the winery, the estate adheres to strict specifications, to ensure that this renowned appellation is preserved and showcased at its best. The unique cuvées produced by Château Saint-Michel enhance aperitifs and rank among the finest sweet wines in France without the slightest doubt.
An unmissable appellation in the south-west covering almost 1,500 hectares of vines, Rivesaltes is the source of some highly-prized sweet wines. This cuvée is composed of 75% Grenache Noir with the remaining 25% split between Grenache Gris and Maccabeu. Each parcel develops thanks to the benefits of healthy and sustainable viticulture. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified using a notable method. Fermentation is stopped by adding alcohol, allowing the fruit to retain its natural sweetness. Finally, the wine is carefully aged for 12 months before being bottled and left for a further three months prior to retail.
The intense amber colour is characterised by a fragranced bouquet. The wine’s expressive nose reveals harmonious fragrances of red fruits and hints of chocolate. On the palate, a wonderful balance is revealed between silky tannins and the deliciousness of the fruity flavours, leading to a warm and lengthy finish.
