Information
Alfred Gratien’s haute-couture estate was established in 1864, when he settled a few kilometres from Epernay. More than a century and a half later, his philosophy and quest for excellence are still very much rooted here. For four generations, the cellar masters have passed on their unique expertise from Father to Son. Nicolas Jaeger has embodied the living history of the house since 2007, continuing to craft Champagne Grands Crus. Born in 1972, he always envisioned his life following in his father’s footsteps. Growing up in the vineyards of his mother’s side of the family, he very quickly learned, alongside his parents, how to seek out the best supplies, the secrets of the cellar and the work in the winery. Each cellar master has patiently and confidently crafted exceptional Champagnes, reproducing to the letter the meticulous gestures learned from previous generations.
Alfred Gratien’s prestigious estate is located just a stone’s throw from Epernay, where it was founded in the second half of the 19th century. The estate produces the Paradis cuvée, which can be cellared for a considerable time, given its marvellous combination of complexity and noble acidity. This vintage Champagne reveals a bright golden colour, with fine bubbles and a delightful mouthfeel. On the nose, an array of aromatic notes emerges, each more varied than the last. White fruit, yellow fruit, citrus zest, floral notes, vanilla, coconut and dried fruit such as almond and cashew all come together. Lively, dynamic and full-bodied in equal measure, this wine is permeated by a formidable minerality that culminates with a fine saline note. There’s no doubt that such elegance should be paired with noble dishes.
