About the producer

The family-run Littorai estate was founded in 1993 on the north coast of California, through the hard work of Heidi and Ted Lemon. Together, they lovingly craft exceptional cuvées from Chardonnay, Chenin and Pinot Noir grapes. Prior to establishing the estate, Ted started his career in wine in 1981, graduating from the University of Dijon with a degree in oenology. He went on to hone his skills and knowledge at iconic vineyards such as Domaine Guy Roulot in Meursault, Georges Roumier, Bruno Clair, Parent, Dujac and the Villaine vineyard. Ted’s unique savoir-faire and extensive experience combine to produce authentic wines expressing the unique characteristics of the terroir, in keeping with an environmentally friendly philosophy and approach. In 2010, Ted’s hard work was commended by the San Francisco Chronicle, which rightly voted him winemaker of the year.

About the wine

The Pinot Noir vines, located at an altitude of between 800 and 1100 metres, flourish in the warmest part of the Anderson Valley. They climb on steep slopes and benefit from an ideal southern exposure. The parcel, planted in 1998, on soils consisting of clay, schist and rock, is cultivated according to biodynamic viticulture principles, with organic materials. In the winery, the same rigour is employed to produce authentic cuvées that reflect the finest aspects of the terroir.
The sparkling red colour reveals a charming, complex bouquet of red fruit and rose petals, combined with spicy notes and subtle hints of wood. The silky, intense palate generously reveals perfectly balanced, typically Burgundian, fruity aromas. This Pinot Noir can be laid down for several years to perfect its already tremendous array of aromas.
