Information
The family-run Littorai estate was founded in 1993 on the north coast of California, through the hard work of Heidi and Ted Lemon. Together, they lovingly craft exceptional cuvées from Chardonnay, Chenin and Pinot Noir grapes. Prior to establishing the estate, Ted started his career in wine in 1981, graduating from the University of Dijon with a degree in oenology. He went on to hone his skills and knowledge at iconic vineyards such as Domaine Guy Roulot in Meursault, Georges Roumier, Bruno Clair, Parent, Dujac and the Villaine vineyard. Ted’s unique savoir-faire and extensive experience combine to produce authentic wines expressing the unique characteristics of the terroir, in keeping with an environmentally friendly philosophy and approach. In 2010, Ted’s hard work was commended by the San Francisco Chronicle, which rightly voted him winemaker of the year.
The Pinot Noir vines grow on an east-west ridge at an altitude of over 1,000 metres, between the city and the Pacific Ocean. Planted in 2001, the vines grow on extremely well-drained, mixed soils consisting of schist, sandstone and loam. This rich diversity contributes significantly to the aromatic qualities of the grapes, which draw all the nutrients they require by digging their roots deep into the soil. In the winery, biodynamic methods and a natural approach form the basis of the winemaking process.
The bright red colour reveals a delicate, expressive bouquet, characterised by aromas of red fruits such as cherries and plums, combined with spicy scents and hints of beeswax. The rich and complex palate reveals smooth tannins leading to a fresh and persistent finish. This cuvée promises fine, long ageing potential.
