About the producer

Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of the legendary Côte de Nuits, Domaine Castagnier is a family estate that has undergone a profound transformation since Jérôme Castagnier took over its management in 2004. Originally trained as a trumpeter with the French Republican Guard, Jérôme chose to return to his family’s winegrowing roots, bringing renewed energy to the estate. His arrival marked a turning point, both in the estate’s philosophy and in the modernisation of its winery.
The vineyard extends across around four hectares, spread over some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Clos de Vougeot. The estate also owns several Grands Crus, including rare and highly sought-after parcels that have firmly established its reputation within the burgundy winegrowing landscape.
Jérôme Castagnier follows a meticulous approach rooted in respect for the terroir in both the vineyard and the winery. Each parcel is farmed with great care, promoting biodiversity while maintaining a constant focus on precision. Vinification is conducted with minimal intervention, in a style that balances tradition with a contemporary touch, allowing the purity of Pinot Noir and the distinctive character of each climat to shine through.
The wines are distinguished by their elegance, balance and their faithful expression of each terroir. The reds combine vibrant fruit, refined texture and delicate structure. They are as enjoyable in their youth for their freshness as they are after a few years in the cellar when they reveal their full complexity.
Domaine Castagnier is very much an estate on the rise and deserves the attention of lovers of fine, racy Burgundy wines. Behind its discreet profile lies an increasingly sought-after estate that captures the character of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits with remarkable precision.

About the wine

The Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru appellation participates in an ancestral wine-growing tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages, to a time when Cistercian monks began noticing the superiority of certain climates. Among them is Le Cailleret, considered as one of the most noble, and neighbour to the legendary Montrachet. Its name reflects the stony nature of the soil – a blend of fine clay, white limestone and marl – which gives the wine tension, finesse and minerality. The vinification process is precise and respectful with hand-harvests, gentle pressing in whole bunches, fermentation in oak barrels and ageing on fine lees for 12 months without excessive stirring to preserve the grapes’ brilliance.
In the glass, it presents a pale golden colour with bright green hues. The nose is intense with aromas of white flowers, pear, fresh hazelnuts and a hint of chalk. The straight, taut palate is pure, with great aromatic persistence.
