Information
Domaine Roche de Bellene was created in 2005 by Nicolas Potel after the purchase of several plots of vines ranging from Santenay to Vosne Romanée. The vines are aged from 50 to 110 years old and are grown organically. The domaine then launched a trading business under the name of Roche de Bellene which is discussed here.
Situated in the heart of the esteemed Côte de Nuits, the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru exemplifies the full power and noble character of Morey-Saint-Denis. The terroir sits on shallow brown limestone soil enriched with scree, which ensures excellent drainage and encourages slow, even ripening of the grapes. This geological complexity produces full-bodied wines that are both powerful and structured, yet always balanced by a strong minerality. The grapes are collected by hand once they are fully ripe and then carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in open vats with manual punching down, followed by ageing in 40% new French oak barrels for 18 months.
The glass showcases a deep and intense colour with purple hues. The complex nose blends aromas of black cherry, wild blackberry, liquorice and fine leather with mineral notes. The full-bodied and structured palate reveals powerful yet silky tannins, crisp acidity, a long finish and aromas of candied black fruits.
