Information
Domaine Roche de Bellene was created in 2005 by Nicolas Potel after the purchase of several plots of vines ranging from Santenay to Vosne Romanée. The vines are aged from 50 to 110 years old and are grown organically. The domaine then launched a trading business under the name of Roche de Bellene which is discussed here.
Puligny-Montrachet sits at the southern end of the Cotes de Beaune and has established itself as a benchmark of quality, in no small part thanks to its exceptional terroir. The mention of “old vines” in this cuvée highlights that most of the vines are at least 50 years old, which naturally results in lower yields and grapes with a remarkable concentration. The stony, limestone soils in Puligny give the wine a crisp minerality, which is a hallmark of the terroir. The fine clays ensure richness and fullness on the palate. The cool, sunny microclimate encourages slow ripening – ideal for Chardonnay, as it allows the grapes to develop balanced flavours and retain fresh acidity. The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted with care and gently pressed before being fermented in oak barrels. The wine is aged on lees for 14 months giving it depth and texture.
The glass presents a pale golden, luminous hue with delicate silver hues. The bouquet reveals notes of white flowers, fresh citrus, sweet almond and flint. The attack on the palate is lively and taut leading to a precise saline finish.
