Information
The estate was established in 1990 when Guillemard and Clerc inherited a small parcel of vines at the heart of the Burgundy winegrowing landscape. Over the years, the estate gradually expanded and now covers almost ten hectares of vines, planted on some of the finest terroirs in the region, including several Grands Crus. The Domaine Guillemard Clerc vines stretch alongside the charming village of Puligny-Montrachet, whose terroir produces internationally acclaimed white wines. Growing on clay and limestone soils, the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines act as ambassadors for their outstanding terroir, revealing all its secret qualities. Each parcel benefits from a different orientation and location, enabling the production of exceptional cuvées, each with very distinctive features. In the winery as in the vineyard, the estate applies balanced, sustainable methods to both cultivation and vinification.
The Les Folatières Premier Cru climat is one of the most reputable in Puligny-Montrachet. This lieu-dit is located halfway up the hillside, close to the Grand Cru vineyards, and rests on fine limestone soils mixed with marl and clay, giving the wine a sharp minerality, lively tension and great ageing potential. The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted and then gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in oak barrels followed by 12 months of ageing on lees with minimal stirring to preserve the wine’s integrity.
The wine is golden and pale in colour with bright highlights. The nose opens with notes of white flowers, ripe citrus fruits, fresh hazelnut and gunflint. The attack on the palate is lively and elegant with a fine texture, striking minerality, beautiful tension and a persistent, salty and almost chalky finish.
