Oriu, hailing from the Porto-Vecchio terroir, in Corse-du-Sud, is the most noble and ambitious expression of Corsican winemaking. The Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu vines are planted on granite arenas, poor, acidic and well-drained soils, which impose a daily struggle on the vines, favouring low yields but exceptional aromatic concentration. Exposed to the sea air and high-altitude winds, the grapes ripen slowly and retain their freshness. Harvests are carried out by hand with rigorous selection of grapes. The wine-making process uses natural methods; the grapes undergo extended maceration; and ageing lasts for 12 months in casks and demi-muids.
The garnet colour is both deep and brilliant. The nose is complex, blending aromas of macerated black fruits, scrubland, leather and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, dense and structured, enhanced by silky tannins and a lingering finish.
