Information
Les Charmes, located to the south of Meursault and facing due east, is divided into two sectors: Charmes-Dessus, located on the upper slope and Charmes-Dessous, situated below. The vines tended by Thierry Pillot are ideally situated in Charmes-Dessus, where the stonier, better-drained soils produce wines of remarkable precision. The shallow clay-limestone soils are rich in white stones and benefit from excellent sun exposure. This terroir gives rise to generous, broad-textured wines with a silky mouthfeel, balanced by a striking mineral energy derived from the high proportion of active limestone. The grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously sorted in the vineyard before being gently and slowly pressed, without prior crushing. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak casks, after which the wine is aged on fine lees for 18 months in French oak, 20% of which is new.
The golden hue is lifted by green highlights. The exuberant yet beautifully focused bouquet reveals aromas of white peach, ripe pear, white flowers, fresh hazelnut and lemon. The palate is underpinned by a remarkable mineral backbone, bringing tension and finesse to the wine.
