Information
While Champagne is renowned worldwide for its sparkling wines, it is also home to the rare and highly regarded Coteaux Champenois appellation, dedicated to still wines. The reds, produced in minute quantities from carefully selected parcels, reveal another side of Pinot Noir, in a style that is elegant, fresh and refined. Gouttes d’Or stems from a Premier cru vineyard located in Pierry, planted on red clay soils interspersed with Campanian marl and limestone. In the winery, the grapes are fully destalked before undergoing spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 18 months in 228-litre oak casks, without fining or filtration.
The wine displays a vibrant ruby-red hue. The refined, elegant nose reveals aromas of morello cherry, wild raspberry, dried rose and black tea. Supple and silky on the first sip, the palate leads to a chalky mineral finish.
