Information
Paul Gosset, internationally recognised as the oldest Champagne house, was founded by Jean Gosset in 1584. Successive generations of the Gosset family have managed the estate, spanning more than 400 years of history. In 1993, the Renault & Cointreau group acquired the estate, which is now managed by Jean-Pierre Cointreau. His ambition is to preserve the unique balance between land and people. He therefore implements agroforestry on the 150 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir vines. Well aware of the current environmental concerns and with a view to protecting biodiversity, he cultivates his vines with the utmost respect for the land. In the winery, the spirit is the same and vinification is low interventionist. It is in this serene context that the estate produces authentic and fruity vintages.
Located on the right bank of the Marne, the vineyards of Aÿ benefit from an ideal south-east exposure and soils combining a mixture of chalk, red clay, and flint. This cuvée stems from the finest parcel of the vintage, in other words, the plot that yielded the most exceptional fruit of the year. After the harvest, the grapes are lightly destalked and gently crushed. Fermentation occurs spontaneously and naturally during a gentle maceration in vats, with the free-run juice set aside beforehand. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak casks, during which a natural malolactic fermentation takes place.
This rare still wine reveals a translucent garnet hue. The nose is subtle and precise, evoking Morello cherry, wild strawberry, and dried peony, alongside hints of undergrowth and a touch of smoke. On the palate, the airy and juicy attack leads to a lovely depth of fruit carried by chalky minerality, chiselled acidity, and fine-grained tannins.
