Information
Domaine Charles Noëllat had ideally located plots in Vosne, especially the grand cru Richebourg. The domaine was bought in 1988 by Lalou Bize-Leroy to become the future Domaine Leroy. Today, collectors eagerly grasp the few remaining bottles.
The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is the largest of the nine Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. The vines are rooted in well-drained clay-limestone soils with a notable proportion of surface limestone gravel. Vinification here follows a traditional, meticulous approach. In the winery, the grapes are fully destalked and undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation then proceeds spontaneously in vats with native yeasts. The wine then ages for 12 months in oak casks before bottling with light filtration.
An intense dark ruby-red hue emerges in the glass. The elegant nose layers notes of cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant with violet, rose, liquorice and fine spice. On the palate, a supple attack reveals a velvety, opulent texture, with ripe, well-integrated tannins leading to a persistent finish that combines fruit and minerality.
