Information
Lucien Le Moine is a haute-couture trader/farmer maison created by Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin, a Lebanese couple. After the husband spent some time in a monastery and a first attempt at the art of making wine, then embarked on enology studies, he created his structure in 1999 to offer wine from the finest terroirs. The name of the maison comes from the nickname that his friends gave him as a result of his education in the Cistercian cloister: "Le Moine", the Monk. Lucien was the name given to him by the monks. Today, he produces 38 different crus, ranging from village wines to grand crus. The vinification and élevage are very precise and well done, as delicately and naturally as possible. A must-see.
Nestled in the heart of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, the La Richemon climat covers less than half an hectare on a steep slope running east to west. Its name, historically tied to the nuns of Lieu-Dieu Abbey, points to the monastic history of land ownership. The soils are very shallow, sandy, gravelly and pebbly, ideal for drainage and for concentrating the berries’ aromas. Lucien Le Moine, a prestigious wine merchant, carefully selects grapes from trusted grower-partners to produce his cuvée. The grapes are harvested by hand and ferment with native yeasts. The wine is matured for 18 months in barriques, with 25% new wood, and is bottled without fining or filtration.
The wine displays a vibrant, intense and brilliant hue. The nose opens with aromas of red and black fruits, floral nuances and a hint of delicate spices. On the palate, the wine is elegant and structured, with smooth yet firm tannins, impressive density without weight, a saline texture and a lingering finish.
