Information
The Gigondas appellation is one of the jewels of the southern Rhône Valley. Le Gour is produced from vines more than 55 years old, planted across ten hectares divided into 23 small parcels on sandy, silty and clay-limestone soils. This diverse terroir imparts a refined saline expression, concentration and freshness. The grapes are hand-harvested and left in whole clusters, followed by a three-week maceration with punch-downs and pump-overs and careful temperature control. Ageing lasts 18 months, with 70% in concrete vats and 30% in old "foudres" (large wooden tuns), with no fining or filtration.
The wine shows a deep, brilliant garnet hue. The nose is expressive, opening with ripe red berries, dried herbs, garrigue and gentle sweet spices. The palate is broad and fruit-driven, carried by a delicate saline freshness. Silky tannins give an elegant frame, while the finish lingers with a subtle, mouth-filling delicacy.
