Information
A true genius when it comes to vinification, Bernard Dugat acquired his first parcel in 1973, when he was only 15! Gradually, the domain grew through successive purchases of grand crus, mostly in Charmes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin, but also in the village and regional appellations. The wines truly reflect the Gevrey terroir. Above all, the aim is to allow the terroir to express itself. Yields are limited in order to maximise concentration; a traditional and careful maturing in barrels (between 50 to 100% new oak) is carried out for 14 to 18 months.
Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the most prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. The vines for Les Évocelles cover less than a single hectare and enjoy an east- to south-east-facing exposure on marl-based clay-limestone pebbly soils. Harvesting is done by hand. The grapes are partially destalked and ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine then ages in French oak casks for 16 to 18 months.
The wine displays an intense ruby-red hue with garnet glints. The nose is refined and expressive, marrying aromas of wild black berries and blueberry with floral and mineral nuances, subtle sanguine and spice notes and a delicate hint of wood. On the palate, the wine is both powerful and finely balanced. The remarkable mouth-watering tension underlines a precise structure and perfectly integrated tannins. The finish is long and expressive, unfolding with depth and revealing all the nobility and elegance of this emblematic terroir.
