Information
Philippe Valette belongs to the third generation of wine growers in charge of the 8.5-hectare family domaine of the Mâconnais coast, producing exclusively white wines. Converted into organic farming in 1992, the domaine pays special attention to soil and vines throughout the year. The wines are neither filtered nor clarified. Philippe Valette likes to take his time, the élevage of his wines is done depending on their maturity, not according to the market. The wines spend 9, 14 or 18 months in barrels and even up to seven years for certain cuvées. Outstanding wines are exceptional, with a finesse and a rare complexity
Pouilly-Fuissé is one of the most iconic appellations of the Mâconnais. Clos Reyssé is a small, confidential clos, situated in the commune of Chaintré. This plot is planted with old Chardonnay vines, over 80 years of age, whose deep roots reach into clay-limestone soils composed of white marl and limestone scree. The estate’s winemaking philosophy follows a simple yet demanding principle: low-intervention for maximum respect of the grape and terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested at full ripeness into small crates. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out with native yeasts in old casks, and the wine is aged for two to three years on its fine lees, without stirring. Bottling is done without fining or filtration.
The wine shows a bright, golden-yellow hue. The nose is expressive and complex, unfolding aromas of ripe citrus, white flowers, juicy pear and fresh hazelnut, accented by warm stone nuances and a delicate hint of honey. The palate is broad yet lively, driven by superb acidity. The texture is rich and saline, with pronounced minerality and lingering notes of yellow fruit, nuts and subtle herbal nuances.
