Information
Lafarge is a family-owned domain of 12 hectares, established in Volnay since the 19th century. Since then, each generation has strived to make it prosper and grow. In 1949 Michel and his father ran the domain; his son Frédéric joined them in 1978. From 1997 he started to use biodynamics in the domain and since 2000 all the vineyards are organically cultivated.
The Beaune Premier Cru appellation forms an integral part of the prestigious Côte de Beaune. The parcels rest on classic clay-limestone soils that impart finesse, structure and freshness. Manual harvests are extremely meticulous. Fermentation follows traditional methods, with full destalking and the use of natural ferments from native yeasts. The wine is then aged in oak casks, with just 5% new oak to preserve purity and fruit brightness.
In the glass, the wine reveals an intense bright ruby hue. The nose reveals a subtle bouquet of red berries such as raspberry and cherry, interwoven with violet and lifted by gentle sweet spice and a faint smoky, mineral edge. On the palate, it unfurls a silky, coating texture supported by fine tannins and a vibrant mineral freshness.
