Information
Domaine Françoise and Denis Clair was created in 1986 with initially only 5 hectares in Santenay, from the plots of the Clair family. The vineyard has gradually extended to today's 15 hectares. Since 2000, the son Jean-Baptiste has joined his parents and works in the field; they also set up a small trading business to expand their range. The wines of this domaine are vinified in a modern style, with succulent reds and a fine, refined style of white.
The Premier Cru climat La Garenne lies in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. The name "La Garenne" evokes an ancient noble hunting reserve, and speaks to the long and storied history of this hillside terroir. The Chardonnay vines benefit from ideal exposure and classic clay-limestone soils that define the finest Puligny terroirs. These well-drained soils impart distinctive minerality and excellent ageing capacity. Manual harvests ensure strict selection, and vinification is carried out in oak casks with full malolactic conversion. Ageing lasts around 10 months with a restrained use of new oak to preserve terroir expression.
The wine shows a pale gold hue with silvery highlights. The nose is marked by elegant notes of white flowers, citrus and stone fruit. On the palate, a fresh opening gives way to a silky, balanced texture, combining richness with lively energy and leading into a long, persistent finish.
