Information
Tino Kuban, a passionate and enthusiastic winemaker, took over the reins of Domaine Bernard van Berg located in Meursault, giving it the charming name we know today, Les Jardins Vivants (The Living Gardens). He cultivates one and a half hectares of vines at the heart of this exceptional terroir, where low yields and early-morning harvests guarantee premium quality fruit. Alongside his rigorous work as a winemaker, Tino has developed his own wine merchant business, Maison Glandien. He sources grapes from partner winemakers and friends located in various winegrowing regions, including Burgundy and Beaujolais, as well as Alsace and the Jura. He seeks out grapes from sustainable, integrated viticulture that comply with his high quality standards. During the vinification process, spontaneous fermentation, minimal use of sulphites and ageing in used barrels all guarantee authentic, flavoursome wines.
Situated near Pernand-Vergelesses, at the foot of the Corton Hill, the Chardonnay vines draw on stony soils composed of pale limestone and marl, providing all the nutrients needed for healthy growth. Each vine benefits from ideal east-facing exposure on gently sloping hillsides. After manual harvests, the grapes are carefully sorted on site. The fruit then undergoes gentle, slow pressing to preserve purity and finesse. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously. The wine is aged for 12 months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels (pièces) before bottling without fining or filtration.
The wine displays a pale yellow hue with green glints. The elegant, pure nose reveals white flowers, fresh pear and citrus, lifted by chalky minerality. On the palate, lively, taut acidity drives a chiselled texture and a delightfully long finish with a touch of citrus and a hint of butter.
