Information
Côte-Rôtie, in the northern Rhône Valley, is one of France’s most renowned appellations. Known since Roman times, it owes its reputation to its steep, dramatic slopes where Syrah expresses exceptional intensity. The legendary tale of the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune reflects the dual nature of its wines?–?sometimes seductive, sometimes powerful. The Côte Rozier locality is one of the appellation’s key sites, positioned near the village of Ampuis on soils of mica schist and decomposed granite. Manual harvests are carried out on these precipitous slopes, followed by a three-week maceration with spontaneous fermentation. Gentle extraction is achieved through regular punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged for 18 to 24 months in cask, with a small proportion of new oak to polish the tannins and reveal the wine’s full complexity.
The garnet colour is lifted by purplish highlights. The expressive, refined nose is characterised by blackberry, violet and peppery spice, supported by smoky tones and a delicate floral lift. The palate is broad and structured, with tightly knit yet smooth tannins.
