Information
In Gevrey-Chambertin, the Naigeons are known above all as a large trading family. Pierre Naigeon trained at the family school, alongside his father and his trading house, Naigeon-Chauveau. But after buying it, he found himself in 1996 with a single hectare and everything to build. He moved quickly towards a biodynamic approach and considered his own identity, more attached to the purity of the fruit than his father was. Today the domaine has extended to 11 hectares, and Pierre Naigeon tirelessly pursues the best expression of his old vines (over 50 years old) and the various micro-climates on which they flourish. To sublimate the fruit, he carries out severe sorting during the harvest and the gentle extraction in the cellar means he can refine the tannins. As a result: Pierre Naigeon’s wines are silky, even finer than those produced by the previous generation.
Morey-Saint-Denis is a prestigious appellation of the Côte de Nuits, producing predominantly Pinot Noir based red wines. The Les Herbuottes climat is known for producing wines that are as refined as they are powerful. The clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte de Nuits provide old vines with the essential nutrients required for balanced ripening. The hand-harvested grapes undergo strict sorting. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously with the native yeasts naturally present on the berries. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for around 12 months.
The wine displays an intense ruby-red hue. The expressive nose reveals intense aromas of red and black fruit, interwoven with sweet spice and subtle undergrowth notes. On the palate, the generous refined texture reveals a perfectly balanced acidity driven by firm yet silky tannins, leading into a fruit-driven, gently spiced finish.
