Information
Domaine Antonin Guyon in Sauvigny-lès-Beaune was founded by Antonin Guyon in the 1960s before he passed on the torch to his son Dominique in 1970. At this time the domain spanned 22 hectares on the Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits. Since then, the vineyard has expanded to the size of 48 hectares, thus covering several appellations in the Côte-de-Nuits and Côte-de-Beaune and including several premiers crus and grands crus. These are powerful wines in a classic style. The domain is considered one of the best in the Côte de Beaune.
Situated at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin is one of the most renowned Grand Cru of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines grow on the slope of the Côte, rooted in soils comprising a mix of limestone scree, marl, and silt. These well-draining, mineral-rich soils favour Pinot Noir wines that are powerful and offer superb aromatic precision. In the vineyard, the rapes are hand-harvested plot-by-plot, placed in small crates, and sorted immediately upon arrival at the winery. The fruit undergoes a 15-day maceration with controlled temperatures during spontaneous fermentation. The cuvée is then aged for 18 months in barrels before being bottled at the estate.
The deep ruby hue promises an expressive bouquet. The nose offers aromas of red and black fruits, undergrowth, and sweet spice notes, complemented by subtle hints of coffee. On the palate, a frank attack reveals fine tannins and a beautiful balance of power and finesse, leading to a saline and spicy finish.
