Information
Domaine Dupont-Fahn was created in 1975. At that time, Raymond Dupont-Fahn's grandfather believed that his plot, straddling Les Perrières of Meursault and Sous le dos d'Anes, was too rocky and lacked soil. The INAO agreed for 20cm of topsoil to be deposited on the terroir. A few years later, following a complaint from neighbouring producers, the plot was decommissioned for this very reason. Nearly forty years later, the vines are deeply and perfectly rooted in their original terroir and produce superb wines that give some premier crus a run for their money although the plot has never been reclassified. This story, indubitably unique in Burgundy, attracts the curious and the buyers, and it is now very difficult to obtain these wines.
Nestled in the heart of Meursault’s prestigious terroir, Les Clous rises to one of the village’s highest points, rooted in exceptionally hard limestone. The stony, marl-limestone soils offer excellent drainage and provide the nutrients the venerable 85-year-old vines need to thrive. After hand-harvesting and strict sorting, the grapes are gently pressed to obtain a clear, pure juice. Fermentation takes place in barriques with indigenous yeasts, followed by several months of ageing on the lees.
The pale straw hue carries subtle golden glints. The nose opens with white orchard fruit – apple and pear – alongside ripe citrus, hazelnut and a touch of butter. On the palate, a clean, direct attack leads into finely balanced acidity and a long, mineral finish. The wine combines richness with real drive, and promises several fine years of cellaring.
