This lively, precise white wine reveals the tremendous expertise of German winemakers, veritable masters of Riesling in all its guises.
More infoRenowned for their delicate aromatic bouquet, German Rieslings require thorough analysis by any self-respecting lover of fine white wines. At the heart of the famed Mosel-Saar region lies the historic town of Bernkastel. This is home to the Joh. Jos. family estate, revered for crafting some of the region’s most exquisite expressions of Riesling.
This original cuvée from the renowned German estate is called ‘Sauna’. A nod to the dry-heat cabins so popular in Germany for withstanding the country’s long, cold winters. Could this crisp, invigorating Riesling offer its own form of comfort?
Kabinett, the first tier of the Prädikatswein classification, can be vinified dry or with a touch of residual sugar. Here, the estate has chosen to present a dry style.
Grown on slate-rich, east-facing slopes, the Riesling grapes used for this wine reach full maturity in the cool climate while retaining their naturally high acidity. The precise nose reveals zesty aromas, with lemon to the fore, alongside a beautiful minerality and notes of white orchard fruit (pear and Rennet apple). The palate is lively, acidulous, and perfectly balanced.
This exceptional Riesling, already a delight today, will reward patience with at least a decade’s rest in the cellar!

About the Producer Joh. Jos. Prum
The Joh. Jos. Prüm domaine, along with Egon Müller, is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after German domaines. It is located in the Middle Moselle Valley, one of the most northerly wine-producing regions in the world. The vines can sometimes keep their leaves right through to December and the cool climate gives the Riesling fruity and floral aromas and high levels of acidity. Joh. Jos. Prüm belongs to the VDP - Die Prädikatweingüter, a prestigious association of Germany’s finest wine producers. His Rieslings are equally magnificent in their dry forms – Kabinett trocken, Kabinett – and sweet strong iterations (Auslese, Spätlese, and Trockenbeerenauslese). Each cuvée preserves the outstanding freshness which is typical of the Mosel-Saar region.
