Lot presentation

Château Les Charmes Godard 1999

The wine

The Merlot vines, on average 35 years old, climb on predominantly clay and limestone soils. Each parcel of vines is cultivated with unique and special care, with gentle and meticulous viticulture practices. This allows each vine to draw all the nutrients it requires to thrive from the soils. The estate holds the French ‘Haute Valeur Environnementale’ (High Environmental Value) certification and is in the process of obtaining its organic label. The harvested and meticulously sorted fruit is vinified following traditional methods and fermented in oak casks. The cuvée is then matured for 12 to 16 months in barrels before being bottled.
The bright ruddy-red colour reveals an elegant bouquet of blueberry and blackcurrant harmoniously combined with subtle toasted notes. The powerful and generous mouthfeel clear tannins leading to a fruity, persistent finish. This 100% Merlot offers excellent ageing potential.

About the Producer Château les Charmes-Godard

Nicolas Thienpont bought this exceptional vineyard, nestling in the heart of the Bordeaux wine-growing landscape, in 1988. He and his son Cyril also manage two other estates producing authentic, tasty wines. The Château Les Charmes Godard boasts over 28 hectares of vines stretching across some of the region’s finest appellations. The passionately cultivate the region’s signature grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Semillon.  Well aware of the current environmental concerns and with a view to protecting biodiversity, the vineyard holds the High Environmental Value label and is currently converting its vines to organic farming practices. Each parcel receives specific care depending on its needs, to allow the personality of each one to shine through. The estate strives to produce intense, lively vintages that perfectly reflect the regional grape varieties and noble terroir.
