More infoGrenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre that make up the cuvée are from sixty-six-year-old vines that have benefited from a clay and chalk-rich soil. Harvested, then destemmed they were then placed in concrete vats. André, his wife Marina and their daughter Alexandra then move on to pump-over and rack and return during fermentation then leave the grapes to macerate for forty days. The wine is then aged for a year. The wine is characterised by a frank and clean attack. It is ethereal on the palate. On the nose, complex aromas abound that oscillate between black fruit, spicy notes and some woody notes. Flavoursome and well balanced, it pairs well with delicate dishes such as marinated meat or mature cheeses.
About the Producer Elodie Balme
This young estate is a star in the making and without doubt a future Rhône icon. As a daughter and granddaughter of winemakers, Elodie Balme grew up amongst the vines. After studying wine business and oenology, Elodie threw herself in the deep end and vinified her first 3.5 hectares in 2006 using the family farm and two vats that had belonged to her grandfather. In 2009, she expanded she expanded further and built a cave.
Today, Elodie cultivates 25 hectares of 40 year old Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Syrah, Merlot, Clairette and Bourboulenc vines in the Rasteau, Roaix and Buisson communes. The vines in Rasteau and Roaix face south and enjoy different soils (rolled pebbles, marl, sandstone, and coarse sand) which help the grapes ripen perfectly. In Rasteau, the estate produces the local fortified wine, Vin Doux Naturel.
Certified organic since 2023, Elodie continues to create wines from individual plots with a natural approach (treating the soil organically and limited use of sulphur). The wines fruitiness and finesse are bound to charm you.
