Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots Joseph Drouhin 2010
The wine
Domaine Joseph Drouhin was founded in 1880 in Beaune, and is now managed by Robert Drouhin. This is a property with global renown. The Pommard premier cru Les Epenots is made from Pinot Noir grown in chalk-clay soil. Vinification takes two to three weeks and the juice is fermented by indigenous yeasts. The wine is then matured for 14-18 months in oak casks (20% new wood). In the glass, this Pommard has a deep, ruby hue. It has a complex and intense nose of red fruits, violet and liquorice. The palate is frank with a rounded finish that lingers impressively. A powerful and silky wine with good structure and excellent ageing potential. In terms of food pairings, think something classic like a beef bourguignon or veal.
