A perfectly balanced and elegant Ugni Blanc with rich aromas.

More info

Romain Le Bars produces Clau Blanc, a single-vineyard cuvée crafted from Ugni Blanc grapes. This cuvée is unique in that it is vinified and matured entirely in wood, in demi-muid (600-litre capacity oak barrel). Romain Le Bars uses a microscopic pinch of sulphur during bottling to avoid any potential issues, which is the only input in the winemaking process.
Prolonged maturation has imparted Clau Blanc with deeper aromas and greater delicacy. On tasting, yellow fruit, marzipan and white flower aromas offer a rich and varied palette. Despite this aromatic complexity, the wine’s balance remains superb, with the alcohol harmoniously integrated and never overpowering.
This Clau Blanc produced by Romain Le Bars is aromatic and beautifully balanced, reflecting the winemaker’s expertise and the exceptional qualities of the terroir.

About the Producer Romain Le Bars

Having honed his skills for seven years at Domaine de l’Anglore with the Pfifferling family, he eventually started making his own wine in 2018. At the time, his place of choice was Tavel, in the southern Rhône, where he purchased just 1.20 ha planted with Grenache and Syrah. There, he started producing his wines in his garage, and his two cuvées, Tavel and Vin de France, quickly caught the attention of connoisseurs.
And with good reason! Everything is carried out with meticulous care to craft the finest wines: low yields, manual harvests, low-intervention in the winery, very low doses of sulphur, gentle infusion-style extraction (a technique he mastered at Domaine de l’Anglore to showcase the fruit), carbonic maceration, and barrique ageing in used vessels.
Today, Romain’s success is there for everyone to see. He now owns 11 hectares of vines, with a far broader range of grape varieties, and has established a proper winery. Romain le Bars embodies the new wave of Rhône winemakers and promises a bright future for the region. Definitely one to keep a close eye on!
