Romain Le Bars

Romain le Bars embodies the new generation of Rhône winemakers. After seven years working at Domaine de l’Anglore, he went on to acquire his own tiny 1.20-hectare estate in Tavel and began vinifying from his garage. In his thirties, Romain holds great promise for both his estate and the southern Rhône Valley.

Having honed his skills for seven years at Domaine de l’Anglore with the Pfifferling family, he eventually started making his own wine in 2018. At the time, his place of choice was Tavel, in the southern Rhône, where he purchased just 1.20 ha planted with Grenache and Syrah. There, he started producing his wines in his garage, and his two cuvées, Tavel and Vin de France, quickly caught the attention of connoisseurs.
And with good reason! Everything is carried out with meticulous care to craft the finest wines: low yields, manual harvests, low-intervention in the winery, very low doses of sulphur, gentle infusion-style extraction (a technique he mastered at Domaine de l’Anglore to showcase the fruit), carbonic maceration, and barrique ageing in used vessels.
Today, Romain’s success is there for everyone to see. He now owns 11 hectares of vines, with a far broader range of grape varieties, and has established a proper winery. Romain le Bars embodies the new wave of Rhône winemakers and promises a bright future for the region. Definitely one to keep a close eye on!
