Renowned for its unique complexity and winemaking heritage, and coveted by connoisseurs the world over, this rare Riesling from Willi Schaefer is a jewel from the Mosel.
More infoThis Riesling is an iconic cuvée from the family-owned vineyard of Willi Schaefer. Situated in the Mosel region of Germany, this estate, covering approximately four hectares, is planted exclusively with Riesling vines growing on primarily blue slate soils that are typical of the region and impart a distinct minerality to the wine. The Graacher Domprobst vineyard where this Riesling is produced is known for its steep, south-west facing slopes that enjoy optimal sun exposure and offer ideal ripening conditions for this grape variety. The wine is made in the traditional way with fermentation taking place in stainless-steel vats to preserve the purity of the grape and freshness of the juices. With ageing also being carried out in stainless-steel vats, the delicate balance between acidity and residual sugar, so typical of Kabinett, is maintained.
On the nose, this Riesling unveils aromas of green apple, pear and lemon accompanied by subtle floral notes and an elegant minerality. On the palate, it is fresh and lively with a beautiful tension, fruitful flavours and a slight saline finish.

About the Producer Willi Schaefer
We’re taking you to the Mosel in Germany, to one of the region’s flagship producers, Willi Schaefer. This small family domain of only four hectares is located in the fine terroir of Graach, with remarkably well-located in the area (Himmelreich and Domprobst) as well as Wehlen (Sonnenuhr), on slate slopes that plunge into the Mosel, where Riesling reaches its zenith.
The sole variety cultivated is in fact Riesling, and thanks to respectful viticulture – with much focus on the balance of the soils - and precise vinifications, their wines display sublime purity of fruit and an ethereal complexity. Be warned: these rare cuvées – wines that have been known to “make adult men cry”, according to Danish blogger René Langdahl – are at once unmissable and hard to come by.
