Whisky Lagg Palo Cortado Finish Small Batch
About the Producer Lagg
Located on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, the Lagg distillery was founded with the aim of producing high-quality peated single malt whisky. The distillery carefully selects barley grown on the estate, which is then malted to begin germination. The barley is dried in a kiln fired with peat sourced from across Scotland and abroad, allowing Lagg to experiment with the influence of different types of peat on its whiskies. Once dried, the barley is milled and mashed with water before yeast is added to trigger fermentation. The final stage during which sugars are converted into alcohol, producing what is known as the “wash”. After being distilled twice, the spirit is matured for several years in oak casks. The distillery explores every variable, experimenting with barley types, yeast strains and even production techniques. Alongside this research work, Lagg produces around 500,000 litres of spirits each year. The estate has also planted over 140 apple trees, which are used to craft its own cider and apple brandy.
