A superb terroir-driven Pommard, richly built yet refined, layering spiced red fruit over fine structure and impressive longevity.

More info

The Pommard appellation, one of the most iconic of the Côte de Beaune, has been renowned since the Middle Ages for the power and longevity of its Pinot Noirs. Among its most prestigious climats is Les Épenots, a vast terroir divided between Clos des Épenots and Grand Clos des Épenots. The latter, a monopole of Domaine de Courcel, is considered one of the jewels of the cru. In the winery, the grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in open vats. Maceration lasts about three weeks, with carefully controlled punch downs and pump overs to ensure a fine, balanced extraction of the tannins. The wine is then aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak casks, with a moderate proportion of new wood.
The wine displays a deep, intense garnet-red hue. The nose is complex and noble, revealing aromas of dark fruit complemented by gentle notes of sweet spice. On the palate, it is powerful, dense and structured, with firm yet elegant tannins supported by a bright acidic backbone that brings freshness.

About the Producer Domaine de Courcel

No other domaine better embodies the Pommard appellation than Domaine Courcel. Over 10 hectares, this domaine produces the greatest red wines of the town thanks to exceptional terroirs such as the Premier Cru Grand Clos des Epenots (which it runs as a monopole) or even the Rugiens which surpass many grands crus. Since 1996, Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel have managed the domaine while Gilles de Courcel, assisted by Yves Confuron, is in charge of the vinification process. The vineyards are managed organically (not certified), and the family’s demands are ever present.
