Vin de France Les Coqueries 36 mois d'elevage Stéphane Bernaudeau (Domaine) 2020
The wine
Stéphane Bernaudeau acquired the Coqueries parcel in the hamlet of Petit Bonnezeaux, within the commune of Martigné-Briand, in 2018. This site benefits from an exceptional terroir, with clay–silica soils and a favourable exposure that allows Chenin Blanc to ripen slowly and evenly. Following manual harvests, the grapes undergo direct pressing. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, driven by native yeasts naturally present on the fruit. The wine is then aged for 36 months on fine lees in stainless-steel vats, without sulphur to preserve fruit purity while building texture and complexity.
The wine shows a bright, pale yellow hue. The nose is defined by aromas of white fruit and floral notes. On the palate, a lively attack reveals taut acidity and marked tension, leading to a saline, subtly iodine-tinged finish.
About the Producer Stéphane Bernaudeau
Stéphane Bernaudeau, who works for Domaine Mark Angeli, also owns just over 2 hectares of vines in Anjou in the Martigné-Briand district. This small-scale concern has been very successful and it is hard to get hold of bottles of its Chenin cuvées as their quality is so high. These wines have a distinctive depth, energy and minerality. We can highly recommend wines from this outstanding producer.
