Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Jean-Claude Boisset 2013

The wine

The Clos de la Roche Grand Cru from Domaine Jean-Claude Boisset is one of the most famous Grands Crus in Morey-Saint-Denis, located between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. The soil is hard to cultivate because of its chalky, stony composition, but it nevertheless produces a very firm wine with excellent ageing potential. The vineyard, facing east and covering 0.09 hectares, is planted with Pinot Noir vines averaging 54 years old. Manual harvests are followed by a double-sorting process, first in the vineyard and then on a table in the winery. The grapes are 100% destemmed, but not crushed, and gravity-fed into vats. The wine undergoes a 21-day maceration, including two days of cold maceration, with native yeasts and four punch downs. The wine is aged for 15 months on lees, without racking, in new French oak casks.
This garnet-coloured nectar reveals aromas of violet, black cherry and stony notes. Intense and acidic on the palate, it offers very fine tannins on the finish, and can be cellared for over 10 years.
