Barolo DOCG Vigna Rionda Canale Aldo & Figlio 1982
The wine
As is stipulated in this sumptuous appellation’s rule book, the Vigna Ronda Barolo is a single-varietal Nebbiolo cuvée. The grapes are grown at the heart of Serralunga d’Alba which is characterised by its chalk-rich soil. The vines are pruned following the Guyot method and the grapes are harvested by hand. Vinification takes place in steel vats with indigenous yeasts, beginning a 6-week fermentation that is punctuated by pumping over and punching down. The wine is then matured in large, Slovenian casks for three years. It is bottled without filtration. In the glass it has an intense and concentrated appearance with an elegant bouquet of dark fruit, gentle spices, black olives, and truffle. The palate marries this elegance with a firm structure. We recommend enjoying this cuvée after a few years of ageing with a dish based on red meat.
