Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Allegrini 2014
The wine
The Amarone della Valpolicella appellation is rooted in the millennia-old history of Valpolicella, a celebrated historic Italian winemaking region since Roman times. The name Amarone emerged to distinguish this dry, powerful wine from Recioto, a sweet wine crafted using the same appassimento method. The Valpolicella Classico terroir is defined by south-facing hills, a temperate climate with hot, dry summers, where soils consist mainly of limestone, clay and pebbles. This cuvée is a meticulous blend of 80% Corvina, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta. Grapes are carefully selected at harvest, with only intact clusters retained. The bunches are then dried for three months following the appassimento method, losing about 40% of their weight while concentrating sugars and aromas.
The wine displays a deep, almost black hue with purplish glint. Intense and refined aromas rise from the glass, interweaving candied black fruit, Amarena cherry, dried fig, sweet spice, leather and cocoa, lifted by a hint of balsamic and delicate minerality. The palate reveals a broad, dense and silky texture, elevated by a refreshing acidity that culminates in a long, complex and elegant finish.
