Madère Blandy's Sercial Vintage 1969
The wine
This Madeira is made from Sercial grapes grown in volcanic soils enjoying the benefits of an oceanic climate. The grapes have been fermented in stainless steel vats for a mere week before élevage in French oak casks, following the traditional Canteiro system controlling the temperature of the wines. It is particularly flavoursome, with notes of almond sweetmeats and pistachio. Although almost dry in the mouth, the alcohol is integrated well, with mellow tannins.
About the Producer Blandy's
Blandy's Madeira was established in 1807 by John Blandy, a quartermaster in the British navy responsible for protecting the island of Madeira from Napoleon’s army. His descendants, who still live on the island, set up the Madeira Wine Company with the Anglo-Portuguese Symington family. They were true trailblazers for the modernisation of the image of Madeira.
