Monymusk 13 years 2007 Velier Villa Paradisetto 1988-2020 Cask n°132 - bottled 2020

The wine

A Monymusk 13 year old single cask (#132) distilled in 2007 and bottled by Velier in 2020. Part of a series of six bottlings paying tribute to Villa Paradisetto, where Velier was located for 32 years, before the business eventually moved. The labes were designed by Singapore artist Warren Khong. Velier was founded in Genoa by Casimir Chaix in 1947. It was originally a small, family-run business specializing in the import and distribution of wine and spirits. Luca Gargano, a former representative for Saint James and serious rum collector and enthusiast, bought the business in 1986 and began bottling whisky first in 1992 and then rum in 1996. After his legendary bottlings of Demerara rum (Guyana) and Caroni (Trinidad), Gargano extended his exploration of Caribbean rum into other territories, including Barbados, Jamaica, Haiti and Marie-Galante. Rums selected by Velier are only ever aged in a tropical climate, which explains both their concentration and the high angels’’ share. They are generally bottled at cask strength or just below.

About the Producer Monymusk

Monymusk is the main brand produced at the Clarendon distillery (National Rums of Jamaica), which is located on the site of the Monymusk sugar plantation from which it takes its name. It is today owned jointly by the Jamaican government, Demerara Distillers Limited in Guyana and Maison Ferrand in France. Clarendon was built in 1949. Originally it was a small distillery equipped with a single Vendome still, which was joined in 2009 by a larger still and a five-column still. The distillery’s warehouses are located at the Inswood distillery, which is also owned by National Rums of Jamaica and closed in 1992.
