Stéphane Ogier

Working the soil, organic treatments, indigenous yeasts and short macerations are key for this big name in Côte-Rôtie. Stéphane Ogier crafts exciting wines for ageing that receive some of the best tasting notes around, including 100/100 from Robert Parker.

As this estate on the hillsides of Ampuis has been in the family for seven generations, it was perfectly natural for Stéphane Ogier to take over from his father Michel in 1997. Having learned his craft in Burgundy, he has decided to produce single-plot wines to achieve the best expression of each terroir. He also strives constantly for elegance and finesse.
Today, the vines are planted on 45 hectares of granite and shale soil (9 hectares are reserved for white vines). Viticulture is conducted according to sustainable principles. Two distinct terroirs define the estate’s identity: the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde, both shaped by a relatively cool climate. Since 2015, the estate operates in an ultramodern winery, equipped with over 600 barriques, ensuring precision in both vinification and ageing. Today, Stéphane Ogier’s wines clearly belong among the elite, thanks to his unwavering pursuit of excellence driven by passion, ambition, talent, and creativity.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY...

BETTANE & DESSEAUVE

The ambition shown by Stéphane Ogier is made yet clearer in the quality of his wines and in his new winery. This is found in south Ampuis, a magnificent facility for vinifying his Côte-Rôtie terroirs parcel by parcel and a beautiful spot for looking out at the landscape. The vinification in casks is supported by masterful, long maturations, making this domain a trustworthy source of excellent northern Rhône Syrahs. The finest sommeliers and wine merchants in the business have already spotted this…

LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

Since 2014, Stéphane Ogier has been vinifying his wine in an ultracontemporary cellar in Ampuis, where he gives his creative talent free reign. Stéphane joined his father Michel in 1997 after studying oenology in Beaune. He has retained a taste for elegance and finesse from there. The precision of the latest vintages, the meticulous selection for his single-parcel cuvées and the style coming through his wine all place this domain among the region’s elite.
