Bordeaux | 2025 vintage
The 2025 vintage lives up to Bordeaux’s long-standing reputation for ‘5’ vintages: a great – perhaps even exceptional – year is in the making, across the board. The growing season benefited from consistently favourable weather, with early and rapid flowering and fruit set, vegetative growth tapering off before veraison, full ripeness across all grape varieties, and fine conditions at harvest, allowing for considerable flexibility in determining picking dates for each plot.
Despite its warm and early profile, the vintage avoids the usual excesses: ripeness is precise, alcohol remains in check and freshness is preserved … making for an ideal vintage! Timely rainfall helped regulate temperatures and rehydrate the grapes at key stages of the vine’s development. However, echoing the more challenging 2024 vintage from a weather perspective, volumes in 2025 were affected, resulting in overall low yields.
The reds are particularly impressive, combining freshness and vibrant fruit with moderate alcohol levels and solid structure. They offer immediate appeal while retaining the potential to evolve gracefully over the long term. In short, 2025 looks set to join the ranks of Bordeaux’s benchmark vintages!
