Champagne | 2023 vintage
Weather conditions
The winter remained largely dry, with rainfall only becoming significant in spring. Cold spells delayed budding until the end of April, though frost damage remained minimal. Heavy rainfall in spring helped reduce hydric stress.
Summer was highly irregular, alternating between heatwaves, cool spells, and excessive rainfall, increasing disease pressure. September began with record heat, making the 2023 harvest the hottest on record.
Harvest
Harvests took place under extreme heat, allowing for thorough sorting due to generous yields and heavy grape bunches.
Profile of the wine
This was a particularly strong year for Chardonnay, showing excellent ripeness, complex aromatics, and fine balance. Pinot Noirs ripened well, producing flavourful wines, while Meuniers are more modest in expression. Overall, the wines are generous, aromatic, and well-balanced.
